Craft It!
Tips * Techniques * Projects * Ideas
Hello!! Welcome!!
Jumping right in to my story! Hope you enjoy and check back often!
I have a room... craft room, studio, whatever you want to call it. It is my "wanna be" happy place. Do you have a defined space for crafting? What type of crafts do you do? I started out paper crafting; scrapbooking and using rubber stamps for card making, to be specific. Over the years, this hobby has morphed into photography, graphic design, vinyl cutting, sublimation, and laser engraving. General crafting is still in there, I guess I'd have to say I'm a multifarious crafter... a little bit of everything.
A little back story - We built our house 10 years ago. When we sold our old house, I had to pack up my basement craft space. THAT was a major undertaking, as if packing up household items wasn't hard enough! FYI: Purging craft supplies is even harder than purging household stuff ;) When we started moving things into the new house, my space was to be on one half of the basement. Yea, that's a dream space for most crafters! Am I right?!? Eventually, I had my room set up the way that worked for me, divider walls went up. Things evolved and the whole room changed when the divider wall came down, storage shelves went up and my room was rearranged again! Sometimes I think I'm happier with the so called organizing (that I never seem to finish) and the collecting of craft supplies rather than the act of crafting itself! Confession: I'm a craft hoarder... there, I said it out loud! My husband would probably attest to that as well!
Fast forward to this summer... I purchased an e-book on craft room organization in 30 days, and I was excited and energized to get it done this time! I hatched a plan, with the help of my son, we built the room in a CAD program and I started adding in all the furniture items and everything was even arranged to scale! I had a plan and a goal!!! How exciting! However, the 30 day scenario wasn't doable for me :( Work and making money to pay the mortgage and the bills just always seems to get in the way of the fun stuff, right?! In the book, I think I'm maybe on day 3, but I've been at this for just a little over 2 months now. With any luck, each day in the book will equate to a month in "real life!" Well, the first few "days" anyway, I think progress will pick up in intensity now that I have the furniture in place and I'm moving on to getting things put away and creating a "purge" pile! I've made a lot of progress, but I have a LONG way to go! Good Will and FB Marketplace here I come!!
They always say that it has to get worse before it gets better and that is definitely proving to be the case with my craft space! I'll gather some of the not-so-scary pics that I can share soon!
Check back soon! I've added site updates to my list of "get off your duff and do it now" stuff!!
